A 26-year-old man lost his life after the car he was driving veered off the road and plunged into a roadside pond near Kattanchimalai in Coimbatore district on Saturday morning. The incident occurred around 7 am, according to police reports.
Victim identified
The deceased has been identified as T Harish, a resident of Kooranur in Kemmarampalayam near Karamadai. He was employed at a private jewellery unit in Rakkipalayam Pirivu and was on his way to work at the time of the accident.
Accident details
Police stated that Harish was driving a relative's car when he encountered a sharp curve at Kanuvaipalayam. He lost control of the vehicle, causing it to skid off the road and fall into a deep pond located within a private grove. The car became submerged in the water.
Upon receiving information from local residents, the Karamadai police rushed to the scene and initiated rescue operations. A crane was brought in to pull the submerged car from the pond. Unfortunately, Harish was found dead inside the vehicle.
Postmortem and investigation
The police informed Harish's parents about the tragedy. His body was sent to Mettupalayam Government Hospital for a postmortem examination. After the procedure was completed on Saturday evening, the body was handed over to the family for final rites.
The Karamadai police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. Authorities are examining whether excessive speed or driver error contributed to the loss of control. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.
This tragic event serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety, especially while navigating curves and unfamiliar roads. Local residents have urged authorities to install warning signs and barriers near the pond to prevent future accidents.
