Ludhiana DC Orders Committee to Inspect Gaushalas for Buddha Dariya Cleanup
In a significant move to accelerate the Buddha Dariya Rejuvenation Project, Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain chaired a review meeting at the DC office in Ludhiana on Wednesday. The meeting focused on assessing progress and addressing critical issues hindering the restoration of the water body.
Committee Formation for Gaushala Assessment
DC Himanshu Jain issued a directive for the formation of a dedicated committee tasked with visiting gaushalas across Ludhiana. This committee will evaluate the cow dung disposal capacity of these facilities and scrutinize the procedures currently in place. The aim is to ensure that cow dung from dairy complexes is managed scientifically and does not contribute to pollution in the Buddha Dariya.
Strict Action Against Violators
The meeting emphasized the need for stern measures against individuals or entities still dumping cow dung or untreated industrial waste into the Buddha Dariya. Authorities were instructed to maintain strict vigilance and initiate stringent actions to curb such practices. Officials clarified that while the government supports industries, it will not tolerate any activities that pollute water resources.
Key Attendees and Departmental Involvement
The review meeting saw the presence of prominent figures including MLAs Ashok Parashar Pappi and Madan Lal Bagga, Mayor Inderjit Kaur, and Municipal Commissioner Neeru Katyal. Senior officials from various agencies also participated, such as the Municipal Corporation, Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Punjab Pollution Control Board, PEDA, and the Soil Conservation Department.
Focus on Treatment Plant Operations
A detailed discussion was held on the proper functioning of sewage treatment plants and common effluent treatment plants. To guarantee uninterrupted operations, the Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board was directed to ensure the availability of gensets at all treatment plants on a 24x7 basis. Board officials informed the meeting that a proposal worth Rs 1.2 crore for procuring gensets has already been prepared. In case of delays in purchase, the board must immediately hire gensets on rent to prevent any disruptions.
Accountability and Future Steps
The authorities stressed that all departments involved in the project must be held accountable if they fail to take action against violators. They called for concerted efforts from all stakeholders to protect water bodies for future generations, highlighting the urgency of the situation. The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to revitalize the Buddha Dariya through coordinated and stringent measures.
