Kolhapur Mandal Booked for Late-Night Sound Trials

Kolhapur: Seven members of a mandal in Kolhapur city have been booked for conducting high-decibel sound system trials past midnight ahead of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Jayanti, violating police restrictions and triggering complaints from residents.

The police said prior notices had been issued to all mandals to avoid activities beyond permitted night hours. However, workers of the Hindavi Group in the Vicharemal area allegedly went ahead with loud sound system trials late into the night, drawing objections from residents.

Acting on complaints, the Shahupuri police intervened and halted the activity, subsequently registering a case under BNS sections 223, 126, 3(5), along with section 136 of the Maharashtra Police Act.

The police warned that strict action will be taken against those violating norms during the celebrations. On Thursday night, several mandals carried out processions with high-decibel music, also leading to traffic congestion and inconvenience to commuters in parts of the city.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenge of balancing cultural festivities with public order and noise regulations. Residents have expressed relief at the police action, hoping it will deter future violations. Authorities urge citizens to report any such breaches promptly to ensure peaceful celebrations.
