NEW DELHI: Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan on Tuesday firmly stated that the Centre would not be allowed to interfere in the state's freedom to decide the school curriculum. This assertion came after a cabinet meeting that discussed education-related issues.
State's Domain Over Curriculum
Speaking to reporters, Satheesan emphasized that curriculum decisions fall within the state's domain. He reiterated that Kerala would safeguard its autonomy in shaping educational content for schools. "Centre won't be allowed to interfere with state freedom to decide curriculum of schools," the chief minister said after the cabinet meeting, according to PTI.
Ongoing Debates on Education Policies
His remarks come amid continuing debates between several states and the Union government over the implementation of education policies, curriculum frameworks, and the extent of state control over school education. The Kerala government has maintained that it will preserve its authority over educational matters while ensuring that curriculum decisions reflect the state's academic priorities and social context.
Kerala's stance highlights the broader tensions between state and central governments regarding educational governance, with the state asserting its right to tailor curriculum to local needs.
