Kanpur Shelter Home Children to Receive Formal Education Following High Court Directive

The Juvenile Justice Committee of the high court has issued a landmark order mandating that juvenile boys and girls residing in Government Shelter Homes in Kanpur must now be enrolled in schools. This decision underscores that these children cannot be deprived of their fundamental right to education, as guaranteed under the Right to Education (RTE) Act.

Implementation of the Right to Education Act

Under the provisions of the RTE Act, the children will be admitted to schools specifically allotted for students from economically weaker sections. District Probation Officer Vikas Singh confirmed that the admission process has already been initiated. He stated, "The majority of boys and girls have undergone necessary testing, and they will be sent to schools under proper security arrangements to ensure their safety and well-being."
