Jamshedpur Deploys QRTs for Monsoon Relief

Jamshedpur: The East Singhbhum administration has announced measures to provide relief to residents during monsoon, including deployment of quick response teams (QRTs) for addressing rain-related emergencies.

Deputy commissioner Rajiv Ranjan has directed officials of Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC), Mango Municipal Corporation (MMC), Jugsalai Municipal Council (JMC) and Chakulia Nagar Panchayat (CNP) to constitute QRTs for prompt action during heavy rain and flooding.

The teams will help civic bodies address complaints related to drainage and sewerage blockage, remove uprooted trees and fallen electric poles from roads, and carry out relief and rescue operations in cases of house collapse due to heavy rainfall. They will also assist municipal authorities in rescue work if flooding occurs.

Ranjan instructed municipal officials to issue toll-free helpline numbers so that residents can report emergencies without delay. “Do not delay in announcing the toll-free numbers,” he said.

Ranjan reviewed monsoon preparedness of urban local bodies at a meeting held at the district headquarters on Saturday. He asked all municipal bodies to complete necessary preparations in advance to ensure citizens do not face inconvenience during the rainy season. He stressed strengthening sanitation measures, regular cleaning of drains and maintaining an efficient drainage system to prevent waterlogging.

The meeting also reviewed waterlogging-prone areas identified over the past three years. The DC directed officials to focus on effective and long-term solutions in localities that face recurring waterlogging.

In view of possible flooding in low-lying areas along the Subarnarekha and Kharkai rivers during heavy rain, Ranjan asked officials to identify community halls and other govt buildings in advance and make arrangements to shelter affected residents, if required.

He also directed the urban local bodies to inspect water supply infrastructure and complete repair and maintenance work at the earliest to ensure uninterrupted supply during the monsoon.
