Punjab Authorities Intercept Illegal Bovine Semen Shipment in Muktsar District
In a significant enforcement action, the animal husbandry department of Punjab has seized a substantial quantity of bovine semen being transported without proper documentation. The incident occurred in Doda village, located within the Muktsar district, where officials confiscated 30 litres of the biological material.
Details of the Seizure and Regulatory Violations
Muktsar animal husbandry deputy director Gurdit Singh confirmed the operation on Tuesday, revealing that the seized semen contained approximately 1,259 individual doses. Authorities suspect the material was intended for unauthorized cattle breeding activities, which represents a clear violation of established regulations.
The confiscation was executed under the Punjab Bovine Breeding Rules of 2021, which strictly govern the use and distribution of bovine reproductive materials. Deputy Director Singh emphasized that utilizing unauthorized semen poses serious risks to livestock quality and genetic integrity, making such activities illegal under state law.
Investigation and Laboratory Analysis Underway
Following the seizure, officials have initiated a comprehensive investigation to uncover the network behind this illicit trade. The samples have been secured and will be sent to a designated laboratory for detailed examination and analysis.
"We are actively working to identify and dismantle the supply chain responsible for this illegal operation," stated Deputy Director Singh. "The use of unregulated bovine semen not only violates legal standards but also threatens the health and productivity of our livestock population."
