The central government has allocated Rs 1,200 crore to Himachal Pradesh for urban development initiatives, marking a significant boost for the state's infrastructure. The funds, announced under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and Smart City Mission, aim to enhance water supply, sewerage, and urban transport systems.
Key Allocations and Projects
The state will receive Rs 600 crore for AMRUT 2.0, focusing on water supply and sewerage networks in cities like Shimla, Dharamshala, and Mandi. Another Rs 600 crore is earmarked for the Smart City Mission, targeting the development of smart infrastructure in Shimla and Dharamshala.
Impact on Urban Centers
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed gratitude, stating that the funds will accelerate urban transformation. The projects are expected to create jobs, improve water quality, and reduce pollution. Local bodies will implement the schemes with technical support from the state urban development department.
The allocation is part of the Centre's broader push for urban renewal across India, with Himachal receiving a higher share due to its hilly terrain and tourism potential. The state government has assured timely completion of projects.
