Shimla: Light to moderate rainfall was recorded in many parts of Himachal Pradesh on Monday amid an orange alert, keeping both the minimum and maximum temperatures below normal across the state.
Rainfall and Weather Conditions
Rainfall occurred in parts of Kullu, Mandi, Bilaspur, Kangra, Chamba, Lahaul and Spiti, Solan, Sirmaur, and Shimla districts. Isolated areas also experienced thunderstorms, hailstorms, and gusty winds, including in parts of Shimla district.
The continuous rainfall over the past few days has kept the mercury below normal in most parts of the state. According to the Meteorological Centre in Shimla, Una recorded the highest maximum temperature of 31 degrees Celsius on Monday, which was 6.4 degrees below normal.
Temperature Records
Shimla recorded a maximum temperature of 18.8 degrees Celsius, 4.9 degrees below normal. Sundernagar recorded 25.6 degrees Celsius (7.6 degrees below normal), Bhuntar 20.3 degrees Celsius (9.6 degrees below normal), Kalpa 14.9 degrees Celsius (4.6 degrees below normal), Dharamshala 27.1 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees below normal), Mandi 26.2 degrees Celsius (6.6 degrees below normal), and Solan 26 degrees Celsius (4.5 degrees below normal).
Tabo recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 3.5 degrees Celsius on Monday.
Advisory Issued
In view of the continuous rainfall in Mandi district, the district administration has issued an advisory urging all residents to remain cautious. Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan stated that the Meteorological Department had issued an orange alert until May 5, followed by a yellow alert thereafter.
“The district recorded around 70 percent above-normal rainfall in April this year, and above-normal rainfall is also expected in May. In such a situation, all citizens need to exercise special caution. The people temporarily residing near rivers and streams should shift to safer locations,” said the DC.
