Gurgaon: Assembly-wise voter help desks, established across the city to assist residents during the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, are encountering an unexpected challenge: a significant number of calls from outside Haryana. Many applicants are also seeking information on when their voter cards will be issued, reasons for processing delays, and the status of complaints submitted via email.
The district administration set up dedicated assembly-level helplines to facilitate voter verification and address queries related to the SIR exercise. However, officials and personnel manning the helplines report regularly receiving calls from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Rajasthan from people inquiring about voter registration, inclusion of names in electoral rolls, and other election-related procedures.
The Gurgaon assembly helpline is also receiving numerous calls related to other constituencies within the district, including Badshahpur, Sohna, and Pataudi. In such cases, operators provide the relevant constituency helpline numbers and direct callers accordingly.
The influx of out-of-state inquiries has increased the workload of help desk staff, affecting their ability to promptly attend to voters from their respective constituencies. Staff members note that a significant portion of their time is spent explaining procedures to callers from outside their jurisdiction and redirecting them to appropriate authorities.
Responding to questions about the reason behind these calls, officials said people from across India live in Gurgaon and may have shared the help desk numbers with their near and dear ones in other states. “In Gurgaon district, which has four assembly constituencies, we have an assembly-specific help desk, but it seems people misunderstood it as a general help desk,” an official told TOI.
According to helpline personnel, each operator has access only to records and login credentials related to a specific assembly constituency. “They neither have access to voter data from other constituencies nor the authority to view records of voters from other states. Consequently, callers are advised to contact the helpline designated for their own constituency or district,” said an official employed at the help desk.
Helpline officials said the majority of inquiries pertain to voter identity cards, the status of applications, and corrections in voter details. “Many callers report that they submitted applications online but are unable to locate their records on the portal. Others complain that their applications for corrections have not progressed despite being submitted,” said the official.
The helplines are also receiving numerous queries regarding electoral roll application forms. Many citizens want to know whether the forms are available only through booth level officers (BLOs) or can also be obtained online. Officials inform callers that all required forms can be downloaded online and are also available through BLOs.
Meanwhile, an additional helpline facility was launched in the Badshapur assembly constituency to assist voters. Electoral registration officer and Badshahpur SDM Sanjeev Singla said that Badshapur is the largest assembly constituency in Haryana. “To ensure timely and convenient services for voters, two helpline numbers — 0124-4268806 and 0124-2570029 — have been made available at the constituency office,” said Singla.
He said that citizens can obtain information related to the SIR-2026 campaign through these helpline numbers. Guidance is also provided regarding inclusion of names in the electoral roll, correction of voter details, transfer of voter registration, polling station-related information, and other election services.
Singla said that continuous monitoring of booth level officers (BLOs) is being carried out to ensure the effective implementation of the ongoing door-to-door verification campaign in the constituency. Separate officials and staff members have been assigned this responsibility. They regularly collect feedback from BLOs and assist in resolving issues faced at the field level.
“This mechanism is helping authorities maintain constant oversight of the campaign’s progress and provide prompt support whenever required,” said Singla. Appealing to citizens, the SDM urged voters to provide accurate and updated information to BLOs and to use the helpline numbers for any assistance or information. He said active public participation is crucial for making the electoral roll error-free, accurate, and up to date.
