A tragic incident occurred in Ahmedabad on Thursday when a suspended working platform, commonly known as a gondola, collapsed at a commercial construction site on Iskcon-Ambli Road. The accident resulted in the death of a site supervisor and left a worker injured.
Details of the Incident
The accident took place at a project located on TP Scheme No. 51. Civic officials confirmed that the building on Final Plot No. 66 had already been completed, and finishing work was in progress. During painting activities on the fourth floor, the suspended gondola allegedly snapped and fell to the ground from a significant height, killing the site supervisor on the spot.
Victims Identified
The deceased has been identified as Avinash Brahmbhatt, a native of Matar in Kheda district. Another worker sustained multiple injuries, including a broken leg, and was rushed to Civil Hospital in Asarwa for medical treatment.
Construction Details and Approvals
According to civic authorities, the construction was carried out in line with approvals issued under a development plan for a multi-storey commercial structure. The building comprises three basements, a ground floor, and 13 upper floors.
Action Taken by Authorities
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) promptly directed an immediate suspension of all work at the site. Notices have been issued to the developer, owners, architect, engineer, and other technical personnel on record, requiring them to submit an explanation within 24 hours. Police have registered a case of accidental death and initiated an investigation into the circumstances that led to the collapse.
This incident highlights the critical importance of safety measures at construction sites, especially when using suspended platforms. Authorities are expected to take strict action to prevent such tragedies in the future.
