The Faridabad police have successfully verified 530 heinous offenders under a newly implemented crime intelligence model, yet 95 of these individuals could not be located at their registered addresses and are currently listed as absconding.
Digitisation Initiative Centralises Crime Records
This verification drive is a key component of a broader digitisation initiative that has consolidated a decade's worth of crime records into a centralised database. The database encompasses 3,499 offenders within the Faridabad district alone, providing a comprehensive overview of criminal activity in the region.
Among those tracked are individuals charged with serious offences including murder, attempted murder, dacoity, robbery, snatching, extortion, and Arms Act violations. These represent a cross-section of the district's most dangerous repeat offenders.
Current Status of Verified Offenders
Of the 530 offenders who have been verified so far, 351 were found residing at their registered addresses. Additionally, 67 are currently lodged in various prisons, while at least 17 have been confirmed deceased. The remaining 95 individuals who could not be traced are now the focus of dedicated efforts to locate and monitor them.
Pre-emptive Policing Strategy
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rajesh Kumar Mohan stated that verification teams are actively visiting residences and suspected hideouts to confirm the whereabouts of these offenders. The objective is to gather real-time intelligence on criminal activity, enabling a shift towards pre-emptive policing. This approach aims to disrupt organised crime before offences occur, rather than merely investigating after the fact.
Over the past month, the initiative has already yielded tangible results: three criminals were apprehended in encounters, and 12 others were arrested in connection with serious offences.
Project Expansion Across Haryana
The project, launched under the direction of Haryana Director General of Police Ajay Singhal, is currently operational across four districts: Faridabad, Rohtak, Jhajjar, and Sonipat. Across these districts, a combined database of 10,892 heinous offenders has been prepared, containing detailed criminal history, residential information, current activities, and other intelligence inputs.
Police authorities have confirmed that continuous surveillance is being maintained over all profiled individuals to ensure they remain under observation.
Structural Shift in Policing
For Faridabad, a district that has long grappled with organised crime and gang activity, this initiative represents a structural shift in how the police intend to stay ahead of habitual offenders. However, the 95 individuals who remain untraced serve as a stark reminder that no database can close every gap, underscoring the ongoing challenges in law enforcement.
