With the monsoon season approaching, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has unveiled a comprehensive citywide action plan. The plan assigns dedicated engineers area-wise responsibility for round-the-clock monitoring of choes, storm water drains, road gullies, and the sewer network.
Choes Under Dedicated Officers
Separate nodal officers have been appointed for key seasonal rivulets, with weekly monitoring reports mandated. The assignments are as follows:
- Faida Choe — Executive Engineer, Public Health Division-3
- Sukhna Choe — Executive Engineer, Public Health Division-2
- Patiala Ki Rao — Executive Engineer, Public Health Division-1
- N-Choe — Executive Engineer, Public Health Division-4
Storm Water System Monitoring
Executive engineers have been directed to ensure regular inspection of outfalls and tail-end points, identification of waterlogging-prone hotspots, maintenance of updated records of storm water and sewer networks, and collection of data on the number and condition of road gullies.
Road Gullies Digitisation Drive
The public health wing has been tasked with preparing a comprehensive inventory of road gullies, creating a geo-tagged master database, digitising the entire road gully network, and procuring fibre-reinforced gully and manhole covers on a priority basis.
Sewer Network Survey and Rehabilitation
Key steps mandated include detailed sewer network surveys across all divisions, as well as CCTV inspections, desilting, and lining estimates by field staff. Accountability has been fixed, with field staff remaining responsible for execution and monitoring. Responsibility will continue despite transfers or postings. Officers have been asked to ensure strict and timely compliance, especially before the monsoon.
Grey Water Discharge Curbs
A survey will be conducted to identify sewage or grey water entering storm drains. Immediate action has been ordered at the Sector 31–47 light point. Corrective steps are to be taken urgently, either departmentally or through contractors.
