Former minister and senior BJP leader R. Ashoka has demanded the formation of a House committee to probe the alleged Bengaluru pothole scam. He accused the Congress government of corruption in road repair works, stating that the potholes are a result of poor quality materials and negligence.
Allegations of Corruption
Ashoka claimed that the government spent huge sums on road repairs but the work was substandard, leading to dangerous potholes across the city. He said, "The pothole scam is a grave issue that has endangered the lives of citizens. A House committee should investigate the matter thoroughly."
Government's Response
The ruling Congress party dismissed the allegations, stating that the government is committed to providing good roads. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said that the government is taking all necessary steps to fix the potholes and ensure safety.
Ashoka also criticized the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for its inefficiency, saying that the civic body has failed to address the issue despite multiple complaints. He urged the government to take immediate action and hold those responsible accountable.
The demand for a House committee comes amid growing public anger over the poor condition of roads in Bengaluru. Several accidents have been reported due to potholes, prompting citizens to protest.
