A tragic incident in Bhadohi early Wednesday morning has left a family in mourning, just hours after they celebrated a wedding. Two cousins, Karan (18) and Arjun Gautam (20), were killed when a speeding truck hit their motorcycle. Their friend Sohan Gupta (19), who was riding with them, sustained serious injuries and is fighting for his life in a hospital.
Wedding Joy Turns to Grief
The family had bid farewell to Karan's sister after her wedding ceremony late Tuesday. Within hours, celebrations turned into sorrow as news of the accident reached them. The deceased were residents of Soilara in Varanasi and worked together at a carpet manufacturing unit in Bhadohi.
Family's Recent Loss
Relatives revealed that Karan's elder brother, Azad, had died due to illness about six months ago. The family was still coping with that loss when this tragedy struck. Arjun was the youngest among four brothers and three sisters.
Accident Details
According to Bhadohi police station in-charge Sachchidanand Pandey, Karan and Arjun had set out on a motorcycle to drop their friend home. They had traveled only a few hundred meters from their residence in Hariav Ward-11 when an uncontrolled truck rammed into their motorcycle and fled the scene. Arjun died on the spot, while Karan succumbed to injuries at a hospital.
Police Investigation
After postmortem examinations, the police handed over the bodies to the family on Wednesday afternoon. Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the area to trace the truck and identify the driver.
The incident has cast a pall of grief over the community, with neighbors and relatives gathering at the family's home to offer condolences.
