Ujjain's Nanakheda Stadium Aims for 2030 Commonwealth Games Matches
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav declared on Saturday that his administration will strive to organize international-level matches at Ujjain's Nanakheda stadium during the 2030 Commonwealth Games. The announcement was made during the foundation stone-laying ceremony for an international-standard synthetic hockey turf and pavilion gallery at the Swargiya Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia sports complex, located within the Nanakheda stadium premises.
Ambitious Vision for Sports Infrastructure
The ambitious project, estimated to cost Rs 48.71 crore, represents a significant investment in elevating Madhya Pradesh's sports facilities. "Looking at this stadium, one is reminded of world-class stadiums abroad," Yadav remarked, highlighting the historical significance of the Ksheer Sagar Stadium where hockey players from across India previously performed.
"A synthetic turf meeting international standards was the need of the hour here, and it will be completed very soon. Our endeavour will be that international-level matches are organised at this stadium during the 2030 Commonwealth Games," the Chief Minister emphasized during his address.
Comprehensive Development Plan
Beyond the synthetic hockey turf and pavilion, the Nanakheda stadium complex will undergo extensive enhancements including:
- Construction of an athletics pavilion
- Development of new roads and parking facilities
- Erection of a compound wall around the complex
Yadav outlined that developing sports infrastructure across Madhya Pradesh remains a top priority, with new stadiums, sports complexes, and training facilities being established in various districts to nurture athletic talent.
Existing Sports Facilities in Ujjain
The Chief Minister detailed several sports facilities already operational in Ujjain, demonstrating the city's growing sports infrastructure:
- 8.71 hectares of land secured specifically for sports development
- Athletic synthetic track valued at Rs 7.22 crore
- Lawn tennis synthetic court for professional play
- Grass football ground for training and matches
- Rajmata Scindia Multipurpose Sports Complex built at Rs 11.43 crore, featuring:
- Shooting range
- Badminton hall
- Mallakhamba facility
- Gymnasium with equipment worth Rs 1.50 crore
Future Development Initiatives
Looking ahead, Yadav announced plans for a new stadium in Hasamapura, with a four-lane road being constructed to improve connectivity. This initiative aims to provide talented players from villages across the region with better access to sporting opportunities and facilities.
Additionally, the swimming pool at Najarali Compound and other major swimming pools in the area will be transferred to the sports department for proper maintenance and professional management, ensuring these facilities remain in optimal condition for athletes.
The comprehensive approach to sports infrastructure development reflects Madhya Pradesh's commitment to creating world-class facilities that can potentially host international events like the Commonwealth Games, while simultaneously nurturing local athletic talent across multiple disciplines.
