TDP MP Tenneti Slams Suspended MPs for Unruly Lok Sabha Behavior

TDP MP Tenneti Condemns Opposition MPs for Unruly Conduct in Lok Sabha

TDP MP Krishna Prasad Tenneti, who was presiding over the Lok Sabha proceedings in place of Speaker Om Birla, has strongly criticized opposition members for their behavior during the session. Tenneti revealed that some MPs addressed him as "yaar" (friend), which he found objectionable and disrespectful to the Chair's authority.

Chaos Erupts as MPs Charge at Presiding Officer

When Tenneti raised the issue of being called "yaar," the situation quickly escalated. Several opposition MPs, including seven from the Congress party, charged toward him in what witnesses described as an aggressive manner. In the ensuing chaos, papers were torn and thrown across the House, creating a scene of disorder that disrupted parliamentary proceedings.

Eight Opposition MPs Suspended for Budget Session

The unruly behavior led to the suspension of eight opposition MPs for the remainder of the Budget session. The suspended members include:

  • Gurjeet Singh Aujla (Congress)
  • Hibi Eden (Congress)
  • C Kiran Kumar Reddy (Congress)
  • Amarinder Singh Raja Warring (Congress)
  • Manickam Tagore (Congress)
  • Prashant Padole (Congress)
  • Dean Kuriakose (Congress)
  • S Ventakesan (CPI-M)

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju condemned the actions of the MPs, stating they showed "utter disregard" for the House and the Chair's authority. The suspension resolution was passed by voice vote amid significant uproar in the House.

Proceedings Adjourned Amidst Continuing Disruption

Following the suspension vote, parliamentary proceedings were adjourned as the uproar continued. The incident marked one of the more contentious moments in the current Budget session, highlighting the ongoing tensions between the ruling coalition and opposition parties.

Congress Protests Outside Parliament

In response to the suspensions, Congress party members later staged a protest outside Parliament, expressing their dissatisfaction with what they termed as arbitrary action against their members. The protest added to the political drama surrounding the incident, with both sides maintaining their positions on the appropriateness of the MPs' behavior and the subsequent disciplinary action.

The incident has sparked debate about parliamentary decorum and the appropriate level of respect that should be maintained toward presiding officers during legislative sessions. Political observers note that such confrontations have become increasingly common in recent parliamentary sessions, reflecting the heightened political polarization in the country.
