Varanasi Trader Killed by Speeding Car, Driver Flees

A 62-year-old trader was killed after being struck by a speeding car at the busy Maidagin crossing in Varanasi late Saturday night. The victim, identified as Rajkumar Aggarwal, a resident of Bangali Bada in the Visheshwarganj area, was returning home when the incident occurred.

Incident Details

According to police, Aggarwal was passing through the Kotwali police station area when a car taking a U-turn at high speed hit him. The impact threw him to the ground, and passersby rushed to help after hearing his screams. However, the driver managed to flee the scene in the car.

Inspector Kotwali Daya Shankar Singh immediately took Aggarwal to the SPG divisional hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

Investigation Underway

Police launched an investigation and scanned CCTV footage from the accident site. ACP (Kotwali) Vijay Pratap Singh confirmed that the car and driver have been identified through the footage. The body has been sent for postmortem, and efforts are underway to apprehend the errant driver.

“We have traced the car with the help of CCTV cameras. The driver will be nabbed soon,” said ACP Singh.

The incident has sparked concerns over reckless driving in the city, especially at busy intersections. Local residents have demanded stricter enforcement of traffic rules to prevent such tragedies.
