UP BJP Deploys Over Two Dozen Senior Leaders to Election-Bound West Bengal
In a significant strategic move, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has para-dropped more than 24 senior members from its Uttar Pradesh unit into the politically crucial state of West Bengal, which is gearing up for elections. This deployment includes four ministers from the Yogi Adityanath cabinet, signaling the party's intent to replicate its successful Uttar Pradesh election management model in Mamata Banerjee's stronghold.
Key Ministers and Leaders Assigned to Bengal
The ministers identified for this critical assignment are JPS Rathore, Daya Shankar Mishra Dayalu, Dinesh Khatik, and Sanjay Gangwar. According to UP BJP sources, these leaders have been specifically chosen for their strong organizational experience in managing booth-level campaigns and mobilizing ground workers. Their primary objective is to energize the party cadre and implement structured campaign monitoring in West Bengal.
In addition to the ministers, state leaders and MLAs such as PN Pathak and Ajay Singh have also been tasked with stepping up spadework in the Mamata Banerjee-governed state. Former MLA Suresh Rana, who played pivotal roles in BJP campaigns during assembly elections in Haryana, Delhi, Tripura, and Madhya Pradesh, has been deputed to mobilize ground workers across at least 30 assembly seats. He will oversee specific clusters of constituencies, with a sharp focus on booth-level security and countering local intimidation.
High-Level Campaign Strategy and Coordination
The deployment is part of a multi-layered strategy being orchestrated from the highest echelons of the party. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are expected to spearhead the campaign, the BJP plans to include star campaigners like Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to scale up the attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government.
Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav, who has deep organizational roots in Uttar Pradesh, is serving as the party's election in-charge for West Bengal. Sources indicate that he is currently leading high-level core group meetings in Delhi to finalize candidate lists and overall strategy. Furthermore, BJP national general secretary Sunil Bansal, acclaimed as a key architect of the party's 2014 and 2017 victories in Uttar Pradesh, is actively involved in the West Bengal core group's election preparations.
Ground-Level Mobilization and Expert Analysis
Speaking to media, Minister JPS Rathore confirmed that a "good number" of UP BJP functionaries are mobilizing cadre and carrying out ground-level campaigns in the deep pockets of Bengal. "We are working as one big unit to bring about the change," he stated. Rathore, a known poll manager, contributed significantly to party campaigns at the grassroots in the 2017 and 2022 UP elections, as well as the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Political experts note that this deployment underscores the BJP's attempt to leverage experienced political managers from its strongest organizational base to energize the cadre in a politically challenging state. A senior UP BJP member explained that by sending ministers like Rathore, Dayalu, Khatik, and Gangwar, the party aims to replicate the UP-style election management model, which emphasizes:
