The Union Cabinet on Tuesday passed a resolution lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his historic achievement of becoming the longest-serving elected Prime Minister of India. The resolution, moved by Home Minister Amit Shah, praised Modi's leadership and vision that have transformed the nation over the past decade.
Historic Milestone
Prime Minister Modi surpassed the record of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who served for 10 years and four days. Modi has now been in office for over 10 years and five days, making him the longest-serving elected PM in India's history. The Cabinet noted that under his stewardship, India has witnessed unprecedented economic growth, infrastructural development, and global recognition.
Cabinet's Tribute
The resolution highlighted several key achievements of the Modi government, including the implementation of GST, the abrogation of Article 370, the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, and the successful vaccination drive against COVID-19. It also acknowledged the government's efforts in poverty alleviation, digital India, and national security.
Speaking on the occasion, Home Minister Amit Shah said, "Prime Minister Modi's dedication to the nation and his tireless work for the welfare of every citizen is unparalleled. This resolution is a small token of appreciation for his extraordinary leadership."
Opposition Reaction
The opposition, however, criticized the Cabinet's move, calling it a publicity stunt. Congress spokesperson said, "While we respect the Prime Minister's tenure, the real issues facing the country such as unemployment, inflation, and agrarian distress cannot be ignored."
The resolution was passed unanimously by all Cabinet members present, reflecting the unity within the ruling party. Political analysts believe this will further consolidate Modi's position within the BJP as the party gears up for upcoming state elections.
Prime Minister Modi, in his response, thanked the Cabinet and reiterated his commitment to building a self-reliant and prosperous India. He emphasized that the credit for this achievement goes to the people of India and the hard work of his team.
