The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has extended an invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to partake in a meal priced at just Rs 5 at the West Bengal government-run Maa Canteen. This move comes amid escalating political tensions in the state, with TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh launching a sharp critique against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
TMC's Challenge to PM Modi
Speaking to the media, Ghosh asserted that the BJP has declared war on the common people by systematically harassing the working population in West Bengal. He claimed that the state government's subsidized meal scheme stands as a testament to its commitment to the welfare of the masses, in stark contrast to what he described as the central government's anti-people policies.
The Maa Canteen initiative, launched by the West Bengal government, provides nutritious meals at a nominal cost of Rs 5 to ensure food security for the underprivileged. The TMC's invitation is seen as a political move to highlight the scheme's success and challenge the Prime Minister to experience it firsthand.
Political Implications
This development adds a new dimension to the ongoing political rivalry between the TMC and the BJP in West Bengal. The TMC has consistently accused the BJP of neglecting the state's development and targeting its working-class citizens. By inviting PM Modi to the Maa Canteen, the TMC aims to underscore its pro-people initiatives while putting the Prime Minister on the spot.
As of now, there has been no official response from the Prime Minister's office regarding the invitation. Political analysts suggest that the move could be a strategic attempt by the TMC to gain moral high ground ahead of upcoming elections.
