At least three people lost their lives and two others sustained serious injuries when a soil mound collapsed during digging work in Chak Thanwa village under Manjhanpur police station limits in Uttar Pradesh's Kaushambi district on Sunday. The incident occurred when the victims were excavating soil for personal use, and the mound suddenly caved in, trapping them under the debris.
Details of the Incident
According to officials, the collapse happened unexpectedly as the group was digging. District Magistrate Amit Pal Sharma confirmed that three individuals died on the spot, while police personnel rescued two others and immediately transported them to the district hospital for medical treatment.
Victims Identified
The deceased have been identified as Geeta Devi, aged 40, her eight-year-old daughter Ankita, and Uttara Devi, aged 45. The survivors include Geeta's 10-year-old son Amit and Jitiya, aged 45, both of whom are currently undergoing treatment at the district hospital. Their condition is reported to be stable but under observation.

Local authorities have launched an inquiry into the incident to determine the exact cause of the collapse. The district administration has assured all possible assistance to the affected families.
