NEW DELHI: Tragedy struck the national capital as three individuals lost their lives in two separate fire incidents across Delhi, highlighting ongoing safety concerns in urban areas.
Paharganj Toy Godown Fire Claims Two Lives
In a devastating incident in central Delhi, a fire erupted at a toy godown located in the bustling area of Paharganj on Wednesday evening. According to the Delhi Fire Service (DFS), the emergency call was received at approximately 4:37 PM, prompting an immediate response.
Firefighters rushed to the scene with fifteen fire tenders and nearly 75 personnel to combat the intense blaze. After extensive efforts, the flames were brought under control, revealing a grim discovery: two charred bodies were recovered from inside the premises.
The identities of the deceased have not yet been established, a DFS official stated, adding that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire and the sequence of events leading to this tragic outcome.
Rithala Jhuggi Cluster Fire Results in One Fatality
In a separate and equally distressing incident, a fire broke out in a cluster of approximately 50 jhuggis (makeshift dwellings) in Rithala, located in outer Delhi, on Thursday morning. The DFS received a call about this blaze at around 4:15 AM.
Responding swiftly, authorities dispatched fifteen fire tenders to the location. The fire was exacerbated by the presence of a cardboard and paper godown within the cluster, which fuelled the flames and complicated firefighting efforts.
Tragically, the charred body of a young girl was found amidst the debris, marking the third fatality in these back-to-back incidents. Officials noted that the combination of flammable materials and dense living conditions contributed to the severity of the blaze.
Ongoing Investigations and Cooling Operations
Cooling operations are currently being conducted at both fire sites to prevent any potential re-ignition. Authorities have launched thorough investigations to ascertain the exact causes of the fires and to establish a detailed timeline of events.
