BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has expressed support for the police investigation into the murder of Rath, stating that the authorities are heading in the right direction. When questioned about the Trinamool Congress's demand for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the killing, Adhikari dismissed the call, asserting that the TMC's relevance in the matter is now negligible.
Adhikari's statement on police investigation
Speaking to reporters, Adhikari said, 'The police are moving in the correct direction in the Rath murder probe. There is no need for a CBI inquiry at this stage. The local police have the capability to solve this case.' He emphasized that the state police have already made significant progress and are close to cracking the case.
TMC's demand for CBI probe rejected
The TMC had earlier demanded a CBI investigation, alleging a lack of transparency in the police probe. However, Adhikari countered these claims, stating, 'There is no relevance of TMC now. Police will be able to solve this.' He accused the TMC of politicizing the murder for electoral gains and urged them to allow the police to work without interference.
The murder of Rath, a local political figure, had sparked tensions in the region, with both the BJP and TMC trading accusations. The police have been under pressure to expedite the investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Adhikari's remarks come amid a broader political rivalry in West Bengal, where the BJP and TMC are locked in a fierce battle for influence. The BJP leader reiterated his faith in the state police's ability to handle the case professionally and called for a fair investigation.
