A tragic road accident in Koppal district of Karnataka claimed the lives of seven members of a family and left over 10 others injured on Friday. The incident occurred when a speeding tipper truck collided with a tractor near the second bridge of the Tungabhadra (TB) reservoir at Munirabad in Koppal taluk.
Details of the Accident
According to the Munirabad police, the victims were residents of Marlayanahalli village in Kudligi taluk of Ballari district. They were returning home after attending the Huligemma Devi fair at Huligi when the accident took place. Preliminary investigations revealed that the tipper truck, allegedly travelling at high speed, hit the tractor from behind, causing the tractor to lose control and plunge off the bridge.
Casualties and Injuries
Seven people travelling in the tractor died on the spot, while more than 10 others sustained serious injuries. The injured were shifted to government hospitals in Koppal and Hosapete, while the bodies were moved to the Hosapete hospital mortuary.
Rescue Operations
Police personnel from the Munirabad station, along with locals, launched rescue operations immediately after the incident. Bodies trapped beneath the overturned tractor were retrieved, and efforts were made to clear the blocked traffic in the area. The identities of the deceased and injured are yet to be officially confirmed.
Legal Action
A case has been registered at Munirabad police station, and investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the accident. Authorities are also verifying the registration and driver details of the tipper truck.

The tragic incident has left the Marlayanahalli village in shock, as the community mourns the loss of multiple family members. Local leaders have demanded strict action against the truck driver and compensation for the victims' families.
