The political drama within the Shiv Sena (UBT) continues as a loyalist from the Eknath Shinde faction invoked the late Bal Thackeray, declaring that their doors remain open for those who feel disillusioned. This statement has added fuel to speculation about a possible split within the Uddhav Thackeray-led group.
Raut and Desai deny any rift
Amid the brewing controversy, senior Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut and his colleague Anil Desai, a Lok Sabha member, categorically dismissed suggestions that some MPs might break away to form a separate faction. Both leaders asserted that the party remains united under Uddhav Thackeray's leadership.
Shinde loyalist's remarks
The comment from the Shinde camp came during a public event where the loyalist reiterated Bal Thackeray's vision and claimed that the original Shiv Sena ideology is still alive within their faction. He stated, "Our doors are open for anyone who wishes to join us and work for the party's principles."
This development comes weeks after reports of discontent within the Shiv Sena (UBT) over strategy and leadership decisions. However, party insiders maintain that such claims are baseless and are being spread by political opponents to destabilize the organization.
Background of the factional feud
The Shiv Sena has been divided since June 2022 when Eknath Shinde led a rebellion against Uddhav Thackeray, resulting in the formation of a separate faction. Since then, both groups have claimed legitimacy and control over the party's symbol and name. The Election Commission is yet to decide on the dispute.
Political analysts view the latest remarks as an attempt by the Shinde faction to poach disgruntled members from the Uddhav camp, especially ahead of upcoming elections. However, Raut and Desai's strong denial suggests that the UBT faction is working to maintain unity.
Meanwhile, supporters of Bal Thackeray's legacy have urged both factions to reconcile, emphasizing the need for a unified Shiv Sena to uphold the ideals of Hindutva and regional pride. The coming weeks are likely to witness further political maneuvering as both sides seek to consolidate their positions.
