In a significant administrative development, Indian Administrative Service officer Shalini Agarwal is set to take charge as the administrator of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) from Tuesday. Agarwal, who currently serves as the managing director of Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL), brings a wealth of experience to this new role, having previously held key positions in municipal governance across Gujarat.
Extensive Background in Municipal Administration
Shalini Agarwal's career in public service includes notable tenures as district collector and VMC commissioner in Vadodara. She was later appointed as the municipal commissioner of Surat, a role from which she was transferred to GUVNL as managing director. Her appointment as VMC administrator was officially confirmed on Saturday, marking a strategic move to ensure continuity and effective governance during a period of electoral delays.
This is not the first time the VMC has operated without elected representatives. In 2020, the municipal corporation functioned similarly when elections were postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, leading to the expiration of councillors' terms.
