The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has issued a stern condemnation following a distressing incident in Kanth town, Moradabad district, Uttar Pradesh. An Amritdhari Sikh student, Jappan Singh, was reportedly prevented from appearing for his BA examination because he was wearing a 'kirpan', one of the five sacred articles of faith for Sikhs.

In an official statement released on Sunday, SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami labeled the occurrence as "a very serious matter" that directly impacts Sikh religious sentiments. Upon learning about the recent event, the SGPC promptly dispatched an inquiry team to the concerned college. This team was led by Brijpal Singh, the in-charge of the Sikh Mission in Hapur, to investigate the circumstances thoroughly.
Dhami emphasized that the kakaars, which include the kirpan, are an essential and non-negotiable part of Sikh identity.
