Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the central government on Saturday, asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Amrit Kaal' has transformed into 'Vish Kaal' for the nation. His remarks came in the wake of the cancellation of the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) examination, which has sparked widespread controversy.
Rahul Gandhi's Allegations
Speaking to the media, Gandhi accused the government of systemic corruption and mismanagement in the conduct of the NEET exam. He stated that the cancellation of the exam has caused immense distress among students and their families, who had prepared for years for this crucial medical entrance test. 'The government's incompetence has turned the dreams of millions of young Indians into a nightmare. This is not 'Amrit Kaal' but 'Vish Kaal' for the country,' he said.
Impact on Students
The NEET exam cancellation has left over 1.8 million aspirants in uncertainty. Many students had traveled from remote areas to examination centers, only to face disruptions due to alleged paper leaks and administrative lapses. Gandhi emphasized that the government must take full responsibility and ensure a transparent and fair re-examination process.
Political Reactions
The opposition has united in criticizing the government's handling of the situation. Several opposition leaders have demanded a parliamentary inquiry and the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The ruling BJP, however, has dismissed these allegations, attributing the cancellation to technical glitches and promising strict action against those involved in malpractices.
Government's Response
In response to the controversy, the Ministry of Education announced the formation of a high-level committee to investigate the matter. The committee is expected to submit its report within a month. Meanwhile, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has been directed to conduct a fresh NEET exam at the earliest possible date.
Public Outcry
The cancellation has triggered protests across the country, with students and parents demanding accountability. Social media platforms are flooded with hashtags demanding justice for NEET aspirants. Many have questioned the credibility of the examination system and called for reforms in the conduct of national-level tests.
Rahul Gandhi concluded his statement by urging the government to prioritize the future of the youth. 'The country's future rests on the shoulders of these students. The government must not play with their careers. We demand a fair and immediate re-examination,' he said.
