Punjab CM Seeks Holy City Status for Nanded Sahib

During a spiritual visit to Takht Sachkhand Sri Hazur Sahib in Nanded, Maharashtra, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann made a significant announcement regarding the sacred town's status. On Saturday, the chief minister paid his obeisance at the revered Sikh shrine and declared that his government would formally raise the demand for granting holy city status to Nanded Sahib with the Maharashtra state government.

Spiritual Significance of Nanded Sahib

Chief Minister Mann emphasized that Nanded Sahib holds immense spiritual significance not only for the Sikh community but for all of humanity. He pointed out that the Tenth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Gobind Singh, spent a considerable portion of his life on this holy land, making it a site of profound historical and religious importance. This connection, according to Mann, warrants special recognition and protection for the town.

Existing Holy Cities in Punjab

Mann highlighted that the Punjab government has already taken steps to recognize other sacred sites within its jurisdiction. The state has officially declared Sri Amritsar Sahib, Sri Anandpur Sahib, and Talwandi Sabo as holy cities, setting a precedent for such designations. The chief minister expressed confidence that similar status could be extended to Nanded Sahib through cooperation between the two state governments.

Commemoration of Guru Teg Bahadur's Martyrdom

During his address, Mann also mentioned the recent commemoration of the 350th Shaheedi Diwas (Martyrdom Day) of Guru Teg Bahadur. He noted that the Punjab government observed this solemn occasion with deep devotion and reverence, honoring the ninth Sikh Guru who sacrificed his life for religious freedom and human rights. This context underscores the government's commitment to preserving and promoting Sikh heritage.

Infrastructure Upgrades for Pilgrims

In addition to seeking holy city status, Chief Minister Mann announced practical measures to enhance facilities for devotees visiting Nanded Sahib. He revealed plans for a complete facelift of the Punjab Bhawan in Nanded, which was constructed by the Punjab government. The upgrade will include ultra-modern facilities designed to better accommodate and serve pilgrims.

Furthermore, Mann addressed logistical improvements for the benefit of visitors. He stated that the supply of Verka milk products in Nanded would be further streamlined, ensuring that pilgrims have access to quality provisions during their spiritual journey. These initiatives reflect a holistic approach to supporting the religious and practical needs of those who visit the sacred site.
