PM Narendra Modi to Hold Seven Major Campaign Rallies Across West Bengal This Week
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to conduct an intensive campaign blitz across West Bengal this week, with seven major public rallies planned across the state. This strategic move comes as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) intensifies its electoral efforts in the crucial eastern state. The campaign schedule reveals a focused approach, with five of the seven meetings concentrated in south Bengal, specifically targeting constituencies where the BJP lost to the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) by very narrow margins during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Detailed Rally Schedule for Prime Minister Modi
Prime Minister Modi officially launched his Bengal campaign from Cooch Behar this past Sunday, setting the stage for a packed week. According to party sources and internal schedules, the Prime Minister's itinerary is as follows:
- Thursday: Three rallies in Tamluk, Asansol, and Birbhum
- Saturday: Three additional rallies in Katwa, Jangipur, and South Dinajpur
- Sunday: A final rally in Siliguri before departing for New Delhi
This concentrated effort represents one of the most aggressive campaign schedules undertaken by the Prime Minister in a single state within such a short timeframe.
BJP Leadership's Coordinated Campaign Push
Simultaneously, BJP National President Nitin Nabin is conducting his own campaign tour in north Bengal, with three scheduled rallies on Friday in Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, and Maynaguri. This coordinated approach ensures both northern and southern regions of the state receive focused attention from the party's top leadership during this critical campaign period.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's Sharp Critique of TMC
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who participated in a roadshow in Barrackpore on Tuesday, delivered a scathing critique of the Trinamool Congress government. Singh accused the TMC of pursuing divisive politics along communal lines and practicing what he termed "appeasement politics."
In a particularly strong statement referencing Pakistani Defence Minister Khawaja Asif's alleged remarks about a potential strike on Kolkata, Singh issued a stern warning: "Pakistan should not forget that when they tried to launch an attack in Bengal in 1971, the country was split in two and Bangladesh was created. If they try to attack Bengal, they will receive a befitting reply. Only God can tell how many parts they will be broken into."
Cultural Appeals and Governance Criticisms
Singh also sought to connect with Bengali voters on cultural and emotional grounds by invoking the legacy of renowned Bengali litterateur Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay. He promised that a BJP government in West Bengal would transform Chattopadhyay's ancestral home into a world-class tourist destination, highlighting the party's commitment to preserving and promoting Bengali cultural heritage.
The Defence Minister further criticized the TMC government's record on law and order, specifically referencing the gherao (siege) of judicial officers in Malda and subsequent court observations. "Even judicial magistrates were held hostage here. You will not find such a government anywhere in the history of India or the world," Singh stated emphatically.
This week's campaign activities represent a significant escalation in the BJP's efforts to make inroads in West Bengal, with the party deploying its most senior leadership to directly engage with voters across the state. The focus on areas where the BJP previously performed strongly but fell short suggests a targeted strategy to convert narrow losses into victories in the upcoming elections.
