Rajya Sabha MP Kartikeya Sharma launched a strong defense of the newly passed Viksit Bharat Rozgar Ajeevika Guarantee Mission Gramin (VB G RAM G) Bill, 2025, while accusing the Congress party and the INDIA bloc of deliberately spreading falsehoods about the landmark legislation.
Press Conference in Yamunanagar
Addressing a press conference at the Bharatiya Janata Party's district office in Yamunanagar on Saturday, Sharma expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the National Democratic Alliance government for steering the Bill through Parliament. He asserted that the public, particularly the people of Haryana, have clearly recognized the "face and character" of the opposition parties.
"Their habit of repeatedly making false statements has rendered them politically unreliable," Sharma stated, criticizing the Congress's alleged pattern of behavior. The event saw attendance from key party figures including OBC Morcha working state president Madan Chauhan, BJP district president Rajesh Sapra, and several other leaders and office-bearers.
Allegations of Misleading Workers and Legislative Evasion
The MP leveled serious allegations against Congress leaders, accusing them of intentionally misleading millions of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) workers with baseless claims. He challenged the opposition's approach, questioning their commitment to constructive debate.
"If the Congress had any genuine suggestions for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, they should have presented them in the Lok Sabha," Sharma said. "Instead, they flee from discussion and resort to walkouts, both in Parliament and in the Haryana Assembly, only to spread confusion later."
Tangible Benefits and Financial Commitment
Sharma detailed the concrete advantages of the new provisions, with a specific focus on Haryana. He highlighted that the state now boasts the highest wage rate in the country, with a minimum daily wage set at Rs 400. This translates to an additional annual income of at least Rs 10,000 for every worker, pushing the minimum yearly earnings to approximately Rs 50,000.
He provided a comparative analysis, noting that the daily wage is Rs 339 in neighboring Punjab and Rs 236 in Himachal Pradesh. To underscore the NDA government's commitment, Sharma presented compelling financial data.
From October 2014 to October 2025, workers in Haryana were paid a total of Rs 5,243 crore, a figure that starkly contrasts with the only Rs 1,854 crore disbursed during the ten years of Congress rule. Furthermore, an additional Rs 1,000 crore has been allocated in the current financial year's budget specifically for employment generation.
Addressing Past Irregularities and Future Assurance
Taking a sharp dig at the previous United Progressive Alliance regime, Sharma cited a 2013 report by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) that exposed large-scale irregularities in MNREGA due to the absence of biometric verification and proper monitoring mechanisms.
He also referenced social audits conducted in Punjab, which revealed over 10,000 cases of financial misappropriation where no recovery or action was taken. Sharma emphasized that the core objective of the VB G RAM G Act is to plug these systemic loopholes, prevent corruption, shield workers from exploitation, and ensure that public funds reach the intended and genuine beneficiaries.
Concluding his address, the MP assured that other pressing matters concerning Haryana, such as the proposed Ambala–Panchkula railway line, would be raised in the upcoming budget session of Parliament.
