In a series of public engagements in Raipur, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Dr Mohan Bhagwat delivered a powerful message centered on fostering national unity and strengthening the social fabric of India. Addressing gatherings, including a Hindu Sammelan at Sonpairi village in Raipur district, Bhagwat called for a collective rejection of divisive mindsets.
A Vision for an Inclusive India
Dr Bhagwat stressed that true social harmony, or 'samajik samrasta', begins in the mind. He urged citizens to consciously remove feelings of separation and discrimination. "The entire country belongs to everyone. This spirit alone defines social harmony," he asserted. He explicitly asked people not to judge others based on caste, economic status, language, or region, emphasizing the need to treat every individual as one's own.
Highlighting practical steps towards inclusivity, the RSS chief said that temples, water bodies, and cremation grounds should be accessible to all Hindus. He framed this not as a source of conflict but as a genuine effort towards unity.
Reviving Family Bonds and Combating Loneliness
Expressing deep concern over modern societal challenges, Bhagwat pinpointed loneliness as a key driver pushing youth towards bad habits and addiction. As a remedy, he strongly advocated for reviving family bonds through a concept he termed 'kutumb prabodhan' (family awakening).
He recommended that families dedicate at least one day every week to be together. This day should involve collective prayers according to their faith, sharing home-cooked meals, and holding meaningful discussions, which he called 'mangal samvad' (auspicious dialogue). He believes such regular interaction is a vital shield against social isolation and its negative consequences.
Bhagwat also linked family security to national security, stating that if the country is in danger, families cannot remain secure. He urged individuals to introspect on the time and resources they devote to society and the nation.
Civic Duty, Environment, and Swadeshi
The RSS Sarsanghchalak outlined a broad vision for responsible citizenship. He called for strict adherence to the Constitution, recommending regular reading of the Preamble and Fundamental Duties alongside traditional values like respecting elders and helping the needy.
On the environmental front, Bhagwat expressed worry over global warming and degradation. He urged citizens to start conservation at home by saving water, adopting rainwater harvesting, reducing single-use plastic, and planting more trees.
Promoting cultural and economic self-reliance, he advocated for the use of one's mother tongue at home, respect for Indian attire, and the promotion of 'swadeshi' by purchasing locally made products, barring unavoidable necessities like medicines.
Earlier, at a youth dialogue at AIIMS Raipur, Bhagwat advocated for a balanced development path that harmonizes progress with environmental conservation. He also linked religious conversions to a breakdown of social trust and called for respectful reintegration.
A 'Samajik Sadbhavna' (social harmony) meeting is scheduled at the Ram Mandir premises in Raipur on Thursday from 9 am to 12 pm, with heads of various communities, social organisations, and intellectuals expected to participate. This initiative is seen as part of the RSS's broader outreach efforts in Chhattisgarh during its centenary year.
