PM Modi Slams TMC for Alleged Support to 'Tukde-Tukde Gang' Targeting Strategic Corridor

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a sharp attack on West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) during an election rally in Siliguri on Sunday, accusing the party of backing what he termed the "tukde-tukde gang"—elements that have threatened to cut off the crucial Siliguri Corridor to separate Northeast India from the mainland.

Strategic Corridor Under Threat

Addressing a large gathering at the Kawakhali ground in Siliguri, PM Modi emphasized the grave nature of the threat. "The country has a 'tukde-tukde' gang, and it threatened to cut off the Siliguri Corridor. They wanted to separate the Northeast from the country," he stated forcefully. The Prime Minister directly linked the TMC to these elements, alleging that the party, known for its appeasement politics, supports such individuals from the streets to Parliament. "That is the real face of TMC," he added, marking his eighth rally in the state since elections were announced.

The Siliguri Corridor, often referred to as the 'Chicken's Neck', is a narrow stretch of land in northern Bengal, measuring only about 20–22 kilometers in width. It serves as the sole land connection between mainland India and the northeastern states, making it a vital strategic and economic lifeline for the region.

Call for 'Double-Engine Government' and Development Push

In his address, PM Modi urged voters to support a 'double-engine government' by bringing the BJP to power in the upcoming state polls. He argued that development in Bengal would accelerate significantly if the BJP governs both at the center and state levels. "Development in Bengal will move faster if the BJP comes to power in the state," he asserted, highlighting his party's commitment to progress.

The Prime Minister reiterated his accusations of appeasement politics against the TMC, claiming that while the state government had allocated funds for madrassa development, resources for north Bengal were insufficient. He further alleged that the TMC had deliberately stalled central projects, hindering regional growth.

Allegations of Cruelty, Fear, and Illegal Immigration

PM Modi described the TMC-led state government as "nirmam" (cruel), asserting that the people of Bengal have endured a "reign of fear", particularly in the tea garden regions of north Bengal. He raised concerns about illegal immigration, warning that it is causing demographic changes and adversely affecting local employment opportunities.

"Infiltrators are eating into local jobs. It will be too late if the menace is not stopped right away," he cautioned. To combat this, he promoted the BJP's election mantra: "Kamal khilao, ghuspetia bhagao" (Bloom the lotus, drive out infiltrators), referencing the party's symbol.

Appeal for Change and Security

Urging voters to grant the BJP a chance, PM Modi noted that Bengal has previously experienced governance under the Congress, Left, and TMC. "Give Modi a chance to ensure the security of daughters, to save Bengal from infiltrators, and to provide jobs to youth within the state," he appealed, positioning the BJP as the solution to the state's challenges.

The rally was part of PM Modi's campaign for BJP candidates in the Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, and Kalimpong districts, where voting is scheduled for the first phase on April 23. The second phase will follow on April 29, with vote counting set for May 4.
