PM Modi Intensifies Campaign in Tamil Nadu, Targets DMK Ahead of Trichy Rally
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sharply escalated his political campaign in Tamil Nadu, directly criticizing the ruling DMK party just one day before his scheduled visit to the state. In a pointed social media post, Modi asserted that the DMK is feeling threatened by the growing popularity of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) among Tamil voters.
Political Confrontation Heats Up
The Prime Minister declared, "The people of Tamil Nadu have clearly recognized the misgovernance and broken promises of the DMK. This growing awareness is precisely why citizens are increasingly aligning with the NDA's positive agenda focused on hope and tangible progress." Modi made these remarks while formally announcing his upcoming participation in a major NDA rally at Panjapur in Trichy, scheduled for Wednesday evening.
This event marks the second significant NDA gathering in Tamil Nadu within a single month, following a similar rally held in Madurai on March 1. BJP leaders within the state have emphasized that the Trichy rally is strategically designed to demonstrate the consolidated strength and unity of the NDA coalition, mirroring the successful display of alliance solidarity witnessed during the Madurai meeting where representatives from all partner parties were present.
The timing of Modi's visit carries considerable political symbolism, occurring merely two days after the DMK concluded its own large-scale state-level conference, setting the stage for a direct political showdown in the lead-up to the state assembly elections.
Major Infrastructure Push Announced
Beyond the political rhetoric, Prime Minister Modi is set to deliver a substantial infrastructural boost for Tamil Nadu. In a separate announcement, he revealed plans to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for numerous development projects spanning multiple critical sectors.
The comprehensive project portfolio includes:
- Petroleum and natural gas infrastructure
- Road construction and highway development
- Railway network expansions and upgrades
One of the flagship initiatives highlighted is the foundation stone ceremony for the BPCL City Gas Distribution Network, which will serve the Nilgiris and Erode districts, enhancing clean energy access in these regions.
Project Details and Economic Impact
According to an official statement released by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the total estimated value of all projects to be inaugurated or initiated during the visit reaches an impressive ₹5,650 crore. This substantial investment underscores the central government's commitment to Tamil Nadu's development.
The specific projects include:
- Inauguration of 89 newly developed rural roads, covering a combined length of 370 kilometers across the state under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
- Laying the foundation stone for a new greenfield bypass near the historically significant site of Gangaikonda Cholapuram.
- Virtual flag-off ceremony for five new train services: two Amrit Bharat Express trains, two Express trains, and one passenger train, aimed at improving regional connectivity.
Logistical Arrangements for the Rally
In anticipation of the large gathering, the Trichy City Police have implemented detailed traffic diversion plans for Wednesday. To ensure smooth movement and minimize congestion:
- Vehicles arriving from Chennai, Perambalur, and Salem directions heading toward the city will be redirected to use the Mannarpuram service road, proceed through KK Nagar, and then via K Sathanur to ultimately reach the Panjapur bus terminus.
- Traffic originating from Chennai and Perambalur with destinations toward Thanjavur will be diverted along alternative routes via Ariyalur and Thiruvaiyaru, avoiding entry into Trichy city center entirely.
This visit strategically combines significant political messaging with concrete developmental announcements, positioning the NDA as a viable alternative for governance in Tamil Nadu as the state prepares for its upcoming electoral battle.
