PM Modi Launches Aggressive Campaign in Assam, Predicts BJP Hat-Trick
Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a powerful political address in Gogamukh, Assam on Wednesday, launching a direct attack on the opposition Congress party while expressing unwavering confidence in the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance securing a historic third consecutive victory in the upcoming state elections.
Sharp Criticism of Congress Leadership
In his first public rally following the announcement of Assam election dates, Prime Minister Modi took pointed aim at Lok Sabha leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi, referring to him as a "Rajkumar" (prince) and "self-proclaimed prince" of the Congress party. The Prime Minister predicted that Congress would face a "hat-trick of defeats" while the BJP-NDA government would complete its own electoral hat-trick in the northeastern state.
"This ocean of people in front of me, the enthusiasm of the youth, the blessings of the sisters and daughters, this love is an open declaration that this time a hat-trick is certain," declared PM Modi, addressing the massive gathering in Gogamukh.
Confidence in State Leadership and Governance
The Prime Minister highlighted the strong leadership provided by former chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and current CM Himanta Biswa Sarma over the past decade, crediting them with ushering Assam into a new era of development and stability. He emphasized that Assam had witnessed unprecedented progress under BJP rule after years of Congress governance marked by instability.
"First under the leadership of Sarbananda Sonowal and then under the leadership of Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam has witnessed a new era of service and good governance in the past 10 years," stated PM Modi, adding that these elections represent an opportunity to build a developed Assam for a developed India.
Key Promises and Manifesto Highlights
Prime Minister Modi detailed several significant commitments from the BJP's recently released manifesto, which he described as a "Mangal Patra" (auspicious document) for Assam's future. Key announcements included:
- Implementation of Uniform Civil Code in Assam
- Protection of tribal traditions and Sixth Schedule areas
- Enhanced safety and dignity measures for women
- Preservation of Assam's cultural identity
"The BJP does what it says," asserted the Prime Minister, drawing a clear contrast with previous Congress administrations.
Infrastructure Development and Technological Vision
PM Modi highlighted substantial infrastructure improvements under BJP rule, particularly regarding connectivity across the Brahmaputra river. He noted that while Congress built only three bridges over the Brahmaputra in 60-65 years, the BJP-NDA government completed five major bridges in just 10-11 years.
The Prime Minister also outlined an ambitious technological vision for Assam, positioning the state as a future hub for semiconductor manufacturing. "That day is not far when chip production will begin from Assam's semiconductor plant," he declared, envisioning a future where phones, cars, televisions, and refrigerators would run on chips manufactured in Assam.
Security and Identity Protection
Addressing the sensitive issue of illegal infiltration, Prime Minister Modi accused Congress of attempting to settle foreigners in Assam at the expense of native residents. He gave a firm assurance that the BJP-NDA government would continue strict action against illegal occupation and protect the land rights of farmers, tribals, and forest areas.
"Assamese pride and identity will continue. This is Modi's guarantee," he proclaimed, emphasizing his government's commitment to preserving the state's cultural heritage.
Contrasting Governance Eras
The Prime Minister drew a stark comparison between the current BJP administration and previous Congress governments, describing the latter's rule as a "dark era" marked by violence, instability, and limited development. He credited the "double-engine government" (referring to BJP rule at both state and central levels) with establishing lasting peace and creating new opportunities for Assam's youth.
"Thousands of Assam's sons and daughters have, in the past decade, put down the gun and connected to a new future," noted PM Modi, highlighting the transformation from conflict to development.
The high-voltage campaign event sets the stage for Assam's single-phase voting on April 9, with results scheduled for declaration on May 4. The Prime Minister's confident predictions and detailed development roadmap signal an intense electoral battle in the crucial northeastern state.
