MCD Takes Swift Action: Suspends Official After Cribery Arrest, Appoints New Leadership
In a decisive move, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has suspended former deputy commissioner of Shahdara North Zone, Lt Col Abhishek Kumar Mishra, following his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on charges of allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 4 lakh. This suspension, announced on Thursday, comes just three days after the high-profile arrest, underscoring the corporation's commitment to integrity and swift administrative response.
Immediate Measures: Leave Cancelled and New Appointments Made
Alongside the suspension, MCD has taken additional steps to ensure operational continuity. The corporation has cancelled Mishra's six-day leave, which was approved for a trip to Vietnam, effectively halting any planned absences in light of the ongoing investigation. This action highlights the seriousness with which MCD is treating the allegations and aims to prevent any disruption in civic services.
To fill the leadership vacuum, MCD has assigned Mamta Yadav, a 2021 batch IAS officer, as the new deputy commissioner of Shahdara North Zone. Yadav, who currently serves as a tax assessor and collector, brings valuable prior experience from her roles as deputy commissioner in Keshavpuram and City SP Zone. Her appointment is expected to bring stability and expertise to the zone during this transitional period.
Additional Appointments for Smooth Functioning
In a related move to maintain efficiency across the corporation, MCD has also given ITS Mohit Bansal the additional responsibility of deputy commissioner of Keshavpuram Zone. Bansal, who holds the position of IT director, will now oversee this zone, leveraging his technical and administrative skills to ensure seamless operations.
The official order, issued on Thursday by the director (personnel), states that these allocations are effective immediately and will remain in place until further orders are issued. This proactive approach is designed to uphold the smooth functioning of MCD and reinforce public trust in municipal governance.
