Mayawati Decries Protocol Violations During President Murmu's West Bengal Visit
BSP chief Mayawati has labeled the alleged protocol lapses during President Droupadi Murmu's recent visit to West Bengal as extremely unfortunate. In a statement issued on Sunday, she emphasized that such incidents should not have occurred, stressing the need for adherence to constitutional ideals.
Respect for Constitutional Offices Emphasized
Mayawati took to social media platform X to express her concerns, stating, "According to the ideals and moral values of the Constitution, it is essential for everyone to respect the office of the President and adhere to its protocol. It is not appropriate to politicise this position in any way." She highlighted that President Murmu, being a woman and a member of the tribal community, deserves particular respect and dignity in her role.
Criticism of Politicization in Parliament
Expanding on her remarks, Mayawati pointed out that the politicization of the Lok Sabha Speaker's position in Parliament over recent months has also been inappropriate. She called for all political parties to rise above partisan interests to honor constitutional positions, which are vital for democratic governance.
Call for Smooth Parliament Session
In light of these issues, Mayawati urged for a harmonious start to the upcoming Parliament session. She added, "In this context, the session of Parliament starting tomorrow should run smoothly in the interest of the nation and the people." Her comments underscore a broader appeal for political decorum and respect for institutional protocols.
The BSP leader's statements come amid heightened political tensions, reinforcing the importance of maintaining protocol and avoiding politicization of high constitutional offices to preserve democratic integrity.
