Mayawati Demands Action on Fuel Crisis and Women's Quota

BSP national president Mayawati emphasized that 'Atmanirbharta' or self-reliance must be achieved through hard work, not just remain a slogan. She highlighted the hardships faced by people due to the crisis of LPG, petrol, and petroleum products in India, attributing it to the ongoing America-Iran war.

Questioning Government Policies

Mayawati questioned whether over-dependence on the private sector can make the country self-dependent and self-reliant. With her party in election mode, she also criticized the central government for not providing a separate quota for women from weaker sections under women's reservation, asking how they can grow and prosper without it.

Poll Preparedness and Party Instructions

While reviewing the poll preparedness of the BSP's Uttar Pradesh unit on Tuesday, Mayawati issued strict instructions. She stated that, unlike opposition parties, the BSP should not give patronage to criminal elements. She urged party members to ensure representation for all castes and communities when shortlisting candidates for elections.

She said, "Distressed by the apathy of the government towards welfare matters, people are looking at BSP with hope. To meet their expectations, the party must work hard with devotion and loyalty. No lack in this will be tolerated."

Key Election Strategies

Among the major election-related instructions, Mayawati focused on:

  • Strengthening the organization at the ground level.
  • Expanding the party's reach to all castes and communities.
  • Seeking progress reports on all issued instructions.

Criticism of Government Handling

Mayawati expressed concern over the worsening livelihood situation in Uttar Pradesh, stating, "In a big state like UP, the difficult situation related to people's livelihood is getting even murkier. But the government is trying to solve all problems through hollow promises and rhetoric, which is extremely unfortunate."

She noted that the poor have been doubly hit, as the crisis of LPG, petrol, and petroleum products—exacerbated by the ongoing America-Israel and Iran war—has increased prices. Additionally, she instructed party members to celebrate the birth anniversary of Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar on April 14 with missionary zeal.
