Maharashtra Minister Uncovers Racket Involving Fake MIDC Letterheads for Vidhan Bhavan Access
In a startling revelation in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, Industries Minister Uday Samant on Monday exposed a serious breach of security involving the alleged misuse of Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) letterheads to fraudulently obtain entry passes for Vidhan Bhavan. Samant brought this grave issue to the attention of Chairman Ram Shinde, highlighting how individuals are using colour photocopies of official MIDC stationery, complete with forged signatures and fabricated names of department officials, to secure passes through illegal means.
A Grave Insult to Legislative Sanctity
Describing the act as a severe insult to the sanctity of Vidhan Bhavan, Minister Samant emphasized that the matter came to his notice in his official capacity and could not be overlooked. He alleged that bogus documents are being circulated in the name of his department, with passes reportedly being sold for as much as Rs 2,500 each. To substantiate his claims, Samant displayed a purported MIDC letterhead bearing a counterfeit signature during the session, demanding immediate and stringent action against all those involved in this illicit activity.
Wider Implications and Previous Controversies
Samant further warned that this might not be an isolated incident, suggesting that photocopies of letterheads from other government departments could also be misused in similar schemes. He revealed that a formal complaint has been lodged with the chief minister's office, prompting officials to investigate how such a security breach occurred. The minister pointed to potential involvement of department staff, indicating that this issue points to a broader, organized racket operating within the system.
This controversy echoes a similar incident from July 2025, when opposition leaders accused individuals of selling visitor passes for Vidhan Bhavan at prices ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000, underscoring persistent security concerns at the legislative premises.
Legislative Response and Inquiry Committee
Taking serious note of Samant's complaint, Chairman Ram Shinde announced the formation of an inquiry committee to delve into the matter thoroughly. Shinde assured the Legislative Council that strict disciplinary measures would be taken against the guilty parties by the conclusion of the current session, reaffirming the commitment to uphold the integrity and security of Vidhan Bhavan.
