Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the Ram temple donation case, asserting that the government must be changed to punish the thieves. Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal alleged that the BJP had misappropriated funds collected for the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
Kejriwal's allegations
Kejriwal claimed that the BJP had collected crores of rupees from the public in the name of the Ram temple but used the money for other purposes. He said, "The BJP has cheated the people of the country. They collected donations for the Ram temple but used the money for their own political gains. This is a serious crime, and those responsible must be punished."
Demand for change of government
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor stressed that the only way to ensure justice is to remove the BJP from power. "We need to change the government to punish the thieves. The BJP is protecting its own leaders, and no action will be taken against them until they are in power," he added.
BJP's response
The BJP dismissed Kejriwal's allegations as baseless and politically motivated. Party spokesperson Sambit Patra said, "Kejriwal is making false accusations to divert attention from his own government's failures. The Ram temple construction is progressing smoothly, and all funds have been used transparently."
Legal implications
Kejriwal also called for a thorough investigation into the matter by central agencies. He urged the Supreme Court to monitor the probe to ensure impartiality. "The people of this country have the right to know where their money went. We demand a CBI or ED inquiry into this scam," he said.
The Ram temple donation case has become a major political issue, with opposition parties accusing the BJP of financial irregularities. The controversy is expected to intensify as the 2026 general elections approach.
