Kanpur Electoral Drive: 35,000 'No-Mapping' Cases Resolved, 2.7 Lakh Voters Identified
Kanpur: 35,000 'No-Mapping' Cases Resolved, Voter List Update

In a significant electoral update from Kanpur, district magistrate and district election officer Jitendra Pratap Singh announced on Thursday that a massive 35,000 cases of 'No-Mapping' have been heard and disposed of by assistant registration officers and 10 electoral registration officers under the Systematic Inclusion of Residents (SIR) initiative in Kanpur City.

Voter Identification and Notice Issuance

Singh revealed that approximately 2,70,000 voters were identified in the 'No-Mapping' category, with notices issued to 1,70,325 voters so far. During the hearings, concerned voters submitted necessary documents from the 13 valid records prescribed by the Election Commission of India and recorded their statements to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Flexible Hearing Process

The district administration implemented a flexible approach to accommodate voters. Those unable to attend the first hearing were given an additional opportunity, and if personal attendance was not possible, they could send a family member as a representative. This measure aimed to maximize participation and inclusivity in the electoral process.

Form Submissions and Objectives

According to the DM, the process has seen substantial engagement, with about 1.25 lakh Form-6 and more than 40,000 Form-8 received to date. The primary objective of this entire exercise is to ensure that all eligible, usual residents and Indian citizens above 18 years of age are included in the voters list, thereby strengthening democratic representation.

Final Voter List Preparation

Preparations for the publication of the final voter list on March 6 are in the final stages. This list will incorporate approximately 26 lakh existing voters, reflecting a comprehensive update. Singh noted that continuous communication and cooperation were received from representatives of various political parties in the district during this process, fostering a collaborative environment.

Citizen Appeal and Future Steps

Appealing to citizens, the DM emphasized that as per the instructions of the Election Commission of India, all voters must check their names in the draft voter list published on January 6. In case of any errors, relevant forms can be filled to rectify discrepancies.

Eligible citizens whose names are not included in the list are encouraged to register by filling Form-6, ensuring their inclusion in the final voter list to be published on March 6. Additionally, 'Booth Day' will be organised again on January 31 at all 3,770 booths in the district, providing further opportunities for voter engagement and registration.
