Jammu & Kashmir Deputy CM Asserts Pakistan's Tourism Sabotage Efforts Have Failed
In a powerful Republic Day address delivered on Monday, Jammu & Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary firmly stated that Pakistan's persistent attempts to destroy the region's vital tourism industry have ultimately failed. Speaking at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar on behalf of the National Conference government, Choudhary extended a heartfelt invitation to people across India and from abroad, assuring them that Kashmir is now "peaceful and ready to welcome" visitors with open arms.
Tributes to Victims and Condemnation of Terrorism
During his speech, Choudhary paid solemn tributes to the tourists who lost their lives in last year's devastating Pahalgam terror attack. He poignantly noted that these victims had traveled from various parts of the country, highlighting the national impact of such violence. "Friends, Pakistan has given immense injuries to Kashmir and tried to cause huge losses to lives and property," the deputy CM declared. "Pakistan has tried to destroy our tourism industry. The people of Kashmir and security forces have defeated its designs."
Enhanced Security and Celebratory Atmosphere
For Republic Day, security measures were significantly tightened across Srinagar and other districts of the Valley to ensure safety and order. Despite these precautions, a festive spirit prevailed as tourists celebrated at Srinagar's historic Lal Chowk. Additionally, the Bharatiya Janata Party organized its own Republic Day event in the city, reflecting broader participation in the national occasion.
Emphasis on Peace, Development, and Hospitality
Choudhary elaborated further on the theme of resilience and progress in his address, stressing that the region is steadily moving towards greater peace and development. "We have overcome the injuries inflicted by Pakistan," he asserted. "Kashmir's beautiful valleys are ready to welcome tourists. I appeal to tourists to visit and experience the hospitality and brotherhood of the Valley." The deputy chief minister also highlighted the "sacrifices and courage" of security forces in maintaining peace and stability. "This Republic Day, I applaud security forces and the Army, who remain constantly alert to safeguard the country," Choudhary said. "I thank the Army, whose efforts ensure that we are able to live peacefully in our homes. I am also grateful to J&K Police, who have been fighting militancy for the past 36 years."
