Himachal CM Sukhu Assures Timely Pensions for HRTC Retirees

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Sunday assured the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) pensioners that their monthly pensions would be disbursed between the 7th and 10th of every month. The state government will provide a monthly grant of Rs 23 crore to ensure timely payments.

Meeting with HRTC Pensioners Joint Action Committee

During a meeting with a delegation from the HRTC Pensioners Joint Action Committee, the Chief Minister also directed the HRTC management to expedite pension benefits for employees who retired after October 2025 and have not yet received their pensions. Sukhu further announced the release of Rs 20 crore to the HRTC for clearing pending medical reimbursement claims of employees and pensioners.

Government Commitment to Employee Welfare

Reiterating the government's commitment to employee welfare, the Chief Minister said efforts were being made to safeguard the interests of serving and retired employees. He noted that the corporation receives around Rs 1,500 crore annually, including nearly Rs 800 crore from its own revenue and about Rs 720 crore as state government grant-in-aid. Despite this, the HRTC continues to incur losses, largely due to the high operational costs associated with maintaining a fleet of nearly 3,000 buses, Sukhu added.
