Haryana Women's Commission Issues Summons to Rapper Badshah Over Controversial Song Content

In a significant development, the Haryana State Commission for Women (HSCW) has officially summoned popular rapper Badshah to appear before the panel. The summons, issued by HSCW chairperson Renu Bhatia, mandates the artist's presence on March 13 to address concerns regarding the lyrics of his now-removed song 'Tateeree'.

Commission Demands Explanation for Derogatory Lyrics

Speaking to media representatives at the mini-secretariat in Jind on Tuesday, Bhatia emphasized the commission's firm stance against derogatory language in music. "We will ask what message he intended to convey through the lines that referenced 'doli' and 'ghodi'," she stated. "Such derogatory language will not be tolerated for any singer, now or in the future."

The chairperson further explained the rationale behind the summons, noting that failure to take action could set a dangerous precedent. "If action was not taken against Badshah, others might follow his footsteps," Bhatia warned, highlighting the commission's commitment to preventing the normalization of offensive content in popular culture.

Consequences for Non-Appearance

Bhatia made it clear that the rapper's compliance is mandatory. "If he does not appear before the commission in Panipat, action will be taken accordingly," she asserted, though specific details of potential consequences were not disclosed. The commission's proactive approach reflects its dedication to addressing complaints from women across the state.

Commission Addresses Pending and New Complaints

During her media interaction, Bhatia also highlighted the commission's broader efforts to resolve women's grievances. The session saw both previously pending complaints and new cases being addressed, with several matters resolved on the spot. The chairperson specifically mentioned hearing complaints from women belonging to Jind and Kaithal districts, demonstrating the panel's active engagement at the grassroots level.

This move by the Haryana State Commission for Women underscores a growing scrutiny of content in the entertainment industry, particularly regarding its impact on gender sensitivity and social values. The outcome of Badshah's appearance on March 13 is anticipated to set important guidelines for artistic expression in the region.
