Former BJP Councillor and Toddler Sustain Burn Injuries in Early Morning Delhi Blaze
A former BJP councillor and a three-year-old child suffered significant burn injuries after a fire erupted at a residential building located near the Chirag Dilli metro station in the early hours of Wednesday. The incident has drawn attention to fire safety concerns in residential areas of the national capital.
Emergency Response and Building Details
According to officials from the Delhi Fire Services, an emergency call regarding the blaze was received at precisely 5:44 AM from Hanuman Road in the Chirag Dilli locality. The building in question comprises a basement and four fully constructed floors, with an additional fifth floor that was partially built at the time of the incident.
Police personnel from the Malviya Nagar police station, along with PCR units, swiftly rushed to the scene upon receiving alerts. Firefighters arrived promptly with three fire tenders to combat the flames, while ambulances were also deployed to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured.
Cause and Extent of the Fire Damage
Fire officials reported that the fire originated among domestic articles stored on the upper floor of the building. The flames spread rapidly due to the combustible nature of the materials, causing substantial damage to the floor before emergency teams could bring the situation under control.
The injured individuals have been identified as Rakesh Gulia (55), a former BJP councillor and resident of the house, and a three-year-old child whose identity has not been disclosed. Both victims were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of their burn injuries.
Investigation into the Incident
Preliminary investigations by authorities suggest that the fire may have been triggered by a short circuit in the electrical wiring of the building. However, officials have emphasized that a detailed probe is currently underway to ascertain the exact cause of the blaze.
"We are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the precise origin and cause of the fire. While initial signs point to a short circuit, we are examining all possible factors," stated a senior fire department official.
