Fire in Dewas Destroys Four Huts, Rs 2.5 Lakh Recovered

A fire broke out in the Newri Phata area of Dewas district on Saturday afternoon, resulting in the destruction of four huts along with cash and household goods. After the flames were extinguished, bundles of partially burnt notes amounting to approximately Rs 2.5 lakh were recovered from the debris.

Incident Details

The incident occurred around 12:30 pm behind a police outpost on Dewas-Bhopal Road. Babulal Nath, a trader dealing in detergent and plastic goods across states, informed the police that about Rs 7 lakh in cash was stored inside his hut. Nath had recently returned from Maharashtra after selling merchandise and was planning to travel to Indore to repay his creditors.

Escape and Losses

While Nath managed to escape safely along with his wife and daughter, most of the cash was consumed by the fire. The families residing in the huts lost the majority of their household belongings, though no casualties were reported.

Firefighting Operation

Firefighting teams from Dewas and Sonkatch brought the blaze under control after a two-hour operation. The fire also caused minor damage to a nearby Khatu Shyam temple.

Investigation

The reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained. Authorities are investigating the incident.
