Chennai: A tragic incident occurred near Madurantakam, where a 47-year-old man and his 21-year-old son drowned in a farm well. The deceased were identified as Amalraj and his son Joseph, residents of Nelvai Palayam village.
Incident Details
On Saturday evening, Amalraj and Joseph informed their relatives that they were going to a nearby farm well to bathe. When they did not return, the relatives began searching for them near the farmland. The next morning, some villagers informed the relatives that they had seen the duo fishing in the farm well. However, due to the well being dilapidated and extremely deep, the relatives could not enter it.
Rescue Operation
Upon receiving information, Madurantakam fire and rescue services personnel reached the spot and recovered the bodies of Amalraj and Joseph from the well. The bodies were sent to Madurantakam Government Hospital for postmortem examination. Madurantakam police have registered a case in connection with the incident.
Police Investigation
Police suspect that Amalraj, who did not know how to swim, may have accidentally slipped and drowned while attempting to catch fish. Joseph may have jumped into the water to rescue his father, but drowned in the process, they added.

Authorities urge people to avoid bathing or fishing in dilapidated wells, especially those with unknown depths, and to ensure proper safety measures are in place.
