Panaji: The unidentified person who had allegedly erected a metal gate in tenanted comunidade land in Mandur’s forest area has quietly removed it, as the stone wall at the same spot has been found restored.
Tenant Files Complaint
The tenant, Ramkrishna Naik, a resident of the neighbouring village of Neura, had filed a complaint alleging trespass on his property, which belongs to the Mandur comunidade.
Panchayat Action
Azossim-Mandur panchayat had issued a stop work order and a show cause notice to an unidentified person regarding the illegal activity, which sparked a row in the area.
MLA Visits Site
St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar, who had visited the site, alleged an attempt at land grabbing. A fire had occurred at the site, and some trees were also axed some time ago.
Inspection Scheduled
Following the notice, Azossim-Mandur panchayat had scheduled an official inspection at the spot on June 17. “We have been told that the gadga wall has been restored, but we will go ahead with the inspection and do a panchnama (as part of the procedure),” sarpanch Prashant Naik said.
Activist Demands Inquiry
Local activist Ramrao Wagh said that media reports may have pressured the person concerned to remove the metal gate. “This could be an attempt to grab comunidade land, as it is happening elsewhere, with support from some quarters,” he stated. Wagh demanded that authorities like the administrator of comunidades, central zone, be involved in the inspection for a proper inquiry. The local comunidade body is also not functional.
