Former RAW Secretary Samant Goel has raised serious concerns over the decision to reduce the size of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's security convoy. The downsizing is part of the Centre's fuel-conservation measures, prompted by rising global energy prices linked to the ongoing Middle East crisis.

Goel emphasized that the current international security environment remains highly volatile. He stressed that the Prime Minister's security should be strengthened rather than downsized. He highlighted that Special Protection Group (SPG) protection is based on threat assessment, not status. Reducing the convoy size could make it easier for adversaries to target the Prime Minister, as a smaller convoy may be more vulnerable to ambushes or precision strikes.
